What Happens During a Hair Transplant?

A hair transplant (also known as hair restoration, hair replacement, or hair surgery) moves healthy hair from a part of the scalp with dense growth to bald or thinning areas. It’s a permanent treatment for people with significant hair loss or those who have tried other forms of hair growth treatment without achieving their desired results. Hair transplants can be performed by dermatologists (healthcare providers specializing in the skin) or plastic surgeons.부산모발이식잘하는곳

During a hair transplant, your surgeon removes a small strip of scalp from a dense area at the back of your head, which they call the donor site. They then use this strip of scalp to create follicular units (tiny groups of hairs) or smaller segments of hair that are then relocated to the bald or thinning area of your scalp. These grafts can differ in size depending on the procedure you choose: punch grafts are round and contain up to 10 hairs; mini-grafts are two to four hairs each; micro-grafts contain one to two hairs; and slit grafts are inserted into tiny slits created by your surgeon.

The surgeon uses a microscope to carefully place these follicular units in the affected area of your scalp. They can be positioned to create the most natural-looking hairline and fullness, or to fill in a bald spot or cover scars from previous surgeries. Once the grafts are placed, your surgeon will cleanse the scalp and wrap it in gauze or other dressings to protect the transplanted follicles. You may also be given a spray to use on your scalp to help with recovery and hair growth.

Once you’ve healed, the transplanted hair will begin to grow at its normal rate. The grafts will likely shed within the first month or so of healing, but that’s okay. As long as you keep up with your postprocedure care, you should see the follicles begin to grow again after about six months.

As with any type of surgery, there’s a chance that some of the grafts won’t “take.” If this occurs, your hair will continue to thin until new follicles take their place. This is why it’s important to discuss your hair goals with an experienced Bosley physician before you undergo a transplant.
