Hair Transplantation 101

Hair transplantation is a cosmetic procedure that improves the appearance and self-confidence of patients who are balding. Today’s techniques mimic the natural appearance of hair by harvesting and transplanting healthy hair follicles in groups of 1 to 4 hairs.

The grafts are then implanted in the bald areas. The results can be very natural looking and undetectable by a barber or stylist.

Donor Area

The donor area is the part of the body from which hair follicles are extracted for transplantation. The most commonly used donor areas are the back and sides of the head, but other areas like the chest or beard can be used as well.

The quality and quantity of hair follicles in the donor area greatly affects the result of a hair transplant. Generally, a donor area that houses 12,000 to 10,000 healthy hair grafts is considered a good/strong donor site for a successful hair transplant operation.

The grafts from the donor area are then transplanted to the recipient areas, where they will begin to grow and regrow new hair. The regrowth of the transplanted hair can take five to six weeks. 압구정모발이식

Grafts

The number of grafts used in a hair transplant is determined by a variety of factors. These include the severity of your balding pattern, the size of your recipient area, the technique (FUT or FUE), and predicted future hair loss.

The ‘donor zone’ on the back and sides of your scalp contains healthy, growing hair that can be harvested for use in a hair transplant procedure. Once removed, the donor area is microscopically divided into a series of tiny sections called grafts that will be relocated to a balding area where there is no healthy hair growth.

During the surgical process, your surgeon uses a tube-like instrument that punches round grafts from the donor site to be placed in an area where you’ll need hair replacement. These grafts contain multiple hair follicles and will grow much like your natural hair.

Surgery

Hair transplantation surgery involves moving scalp hair and follicles from an area with a lot of hair to an area that is thinning or bald. This can help to produce a more natural look and a thicker, fuller head of hair.

The surgery should be carried out by a surgeon who has been specially trained to perform these procedures. If the procedure is carried out by a less qualified doctor, this could result in scarring and unnatural-looking results.

Your medical practitioner will discuss your goals and expectations before surgery. He or she will also decide which method of transplantation is best suited for your needs.

During the surgery, your surgeon will clean and numb the scalp. They then make tiny cuts (slits) in the bald areas and carefully place healthy hairs into each hole. This process can take several hours.

Recovery

The hair transplant recovery process is one of the most important stages of a successful procedure. As with any surgery, you will need to follow your surgeon’s aftercare instructions carefully to ensure a positive outcome and a smooth recovery process.

In the first 24 hours after a hair transplant, you should not do any activity, except resting and sleeping. During this time, your doctor will provide you with pain medication to reduce any discomfort that may occur. 강남헤어라인

Your scalp will itch, but do not scratch the area as this can cause infection and increase the risk of the grafts being damaged. During this period, you will also see scabbing on the donor site and on the placement site.

The scabbing will fall off within 3-10 days. It is important to keep the scabs clean and moisturised as this will help the follicles to heal properly.
